FROZEN SHOULDER RELEASE

Importance of Proper Posture

When speaking about a frozen shoulder it is hard not to mention it’s relation to posture. There are several reason for developing a frozen shoulder: Injury, prolonged immobilization, stroke, trauma and other less common factors, frequently the case for this diagnosis is “Unknown” but poor posture often seems to be the real reason for this condition to develop. Restoring motion in the shoulder joint should be combine switch activities promoting the habit of standing, walking and even sitting properly to accomplish lasting relief and to prevent relapses.

It is hard to just simply make decision to maintain better posture. We slouch as soon as we get preoccupied with other activities and forget about commitments.

It is possible however just by investing 15 min. of time daily for period of one to two months to totally change the way we maintain the posture of our bodies. It is very simple with the use of biofeedback techniques that dancers and movement professionals practice to maintain very proper posture.

When we stand straight with our feet solidly on the ground, looking down with chest full of air, we are in charge, in command and on the top of the world but if we slouch we can feel the stress and the growing pressure of the whole universe pushing down on our shoulders.

Poor posture is more damaging than just make us look depressed or less attractive, it makes us being depressed and less attractive! When we slouch our heads are shifting forward making neck and and shoulder work to keep our eyes leveled and it causes pain and discomfort to shoulder, neck and back. Slouching compresses the rib cage limiting the ability of lungs to fully ventilate. The heart has to pump blood a little harder. When we sit down, a lot of pressure on stomach cavity slows down digestion, circulation and further affects our mood, wellbeing and happiness.

If we maintain good posture the head sits on the top of the spine and by default is in balance, but if it shifts forward then the neck, shoulder and back muscles are becoming responsible for maintaining the head in level position.

It happens like this: At first the soft tissues of the neck area starts to get stiff, then the lower neck joints start to feel restricted putting increasing pressure on the nerves. This cascade eventually affects lover back. If slouching deepens it may become painful and uncomfortable to raise arm. This can lead to reduction of motion to the point that it it becomes difficult to comb one’s hair or brush teeth. At that point we are dealing with frozen shoulder.

I use many massage therapy techniques I developed over the years just to treat frozen shoulder.   I use heat and ointments before massage. The session usually last 30-40 min. My techniques for treating frozen shoulder are very specific. To understand better what I do with a patient please watch the video. It’s also available in better to watch format on YouTube.
